The Beginning DrummerIn this first video by drummer/percussionist Carl Albrecht, you will learn the fundamentals of modern drumming techniques without overlooking the critical basics. Carl spends the first section of the video demonstrating how to be comfortable with your drum set. He shows you step-by-step how to make all of the segments of your drum kit "fit" you. Then he shows you general tuning concepts so you are able to get that "great" studio sound. Once you're ready to go, Carl gives you the ABC's of good drumming technique; covering basic stick grip techniques as well as demonstrating the fundamental rudiments. In the final section, you are given the 4 basic drum grooves that every drummer needs to develop in order to cover all the patterns that you will encounter in most contemporary music patterns using 8th notes, 16th notes, triplets and shuffles (including swing and hip hop). Drums & Percussion: The Next Step In this second video by drummer/percussionist Carl Albrecht, expanding beyond basics becomes the central theme. As you add more drums, cymbals & even percussion instruments to your set, staying in the "comfort zone" is still critical. Carl will show you some colorful options by using various sticks, mallets and brushes; along with a few percussion elements for added effect. You'll also learn how to use rudiments more musically as well as expanding groove and fill ideas into song-like phrases.  Soulful Styles DVDsDescription: "Soulful Styles" is a series of 4 separate DVDs (Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Drums and Bass) that teach musicians and worship teams the secrets of playing contemporary gospel worship music. For the sake of this review, let's loosely define "contemporary gospel" as congregational modern worship music that contains elements of styles like gospel, funk, jazz, Latin or R&B music. I think that Israel Houghton and Martha Munizzzi, among others, might fit well into our definition. Whatever you want call this style, not many musicians in the average local church can pull it off very well, probably for lack of knowledge. We've been blessed with many instructional resources showing us how to play styles like modern guitar-driven worship, adult alternative, Celtic, and country, but there haven't been many that teach worship teams how to play the harmonically and rhythmically rich styles of contemporary gospel music.
